Okmulgee County Jail Overview

Okmulgee County Criminal Justice Authority, often shortened to OCCJA, operates Okmulgee County Jail as the main detention facility for the county. That local structure matters because a person held in the building may be tied to a county arrest, a city case, a tribal matter, a federal hold, or another partner-agency arrangement.

OCCJA says Okmulgee County Jail opened in 2002 and provides secure housing and services for county detainees, state and federal inmates, municipal inmates, and tribal partners. Its public department list includes detention, law enforcement, food production, medical and mental health, education, information technology, maintenance, fleet, administration, SORT, K9, and human resources. OCCJA publishes a combined detainee capacity for Okmulgee County Jail and Moore Detention Center, but the reviewed official pages did not publish a separate rated bed count for the jail building alone. The active Tiger roster showed a point-in-time public roster count when it was inspected on June 25, 2026. That count is useful for search context, but it should not be treated as an average daily population or as a complete contract-custody census. Capacity rules, classification needs, federal or tribal holds, and who appears on the public roster can all affect what a user sees.

The roster is free to view and uses three public areas: active roster, released last 72 hours, and booked last 72 hours. 1. Open the active roster first when the person is believed to be in Okmulgee County Jail now.

Okmulgee County Jail Contact

For jail-specific questions, OCCJA contact information is the better starting point than the sheriff's general number. The contact page lists the main facility as a 24-hour operation, while records questions can also move through the OCCJA online open-records request form. If a person does not appear online, call before traveling, especially when the issue is a new arrest, a transfer, a release, or a hold from another agency.

The OCCJA open-records form asks for requester identity, contact information, relationship to the record subject, a description of the requested record, and an acknowledgement under penalty of perjury. Fees are due when the request is fulfilled and are described as non-refundable. Use that route for jail records that are not fully shown online, including older booking material or records needing a formal response.

Okmulgee County Jail Visitation

OCCJA publishes visitation rules for the County and Annex schedule. Visitors must be preapproved, must bring valid identification, and visits are listed as 30 minutes. Visits are first-come, first-served unless prior arrangements are approved, and the facility allows only one visitor per inmate unless staff authorize more. The schedule is organized by pod, but the public roster profile reviewed did not show a housing pod, so family members may need that detail from the inmate or from staff before choosing the correct night.

Visitor age rules are also published. Visitors age 15 and under need chaplain approval, while visitors ages 16 to 18 need watch commander approval. Dress rules bar short or tight shorts, split-seam skirts, certain sleeveless or revealing tops, transparent or mesh clothing, offensive wording, open-toe shoes, masks, and items such as electronic devices, tobacco, and marijuana products inside the jail.

Okmulgee County Jail Mail and Money

OCCJA allows inmates and detainees to correspond through the U.S. Postal Service. Incoming and outgoing mail must show the sender's first and last name, the sender's full return address, the recipient's first and last name, and the facility mailing address. Mail without the required sender name or return address can be returned. Commissary is also the source for stamps, envelopes, paper, and pencils, and indigent inmates may be eligible for writing supplies at no cost.

Prohibited mail items include altered or defaced postcards, paint, crayon, marker, stickers, stains, biohazards such as lipstick or perfume, nudity, weapons, gang references, glitter, colored envelopes, and greeting cards with embossing, electronics, glitter, or oversize content. Use plain mail and simple formatting when the goal is to avoid rejection.

Okmulgee County Jail Operations

OCCJA's published materials show a facility system with more than housing units. The authority lists medical and mental health, education, food production, maintenance, administration, detention, law enforcement, information technology, and compliance-related work. It also publishes PREA information and says reports of sexual abuse or sexual harassment are handled confidentially, with retaliation prohibited. Reporting channels include the National PREA Hotline on inmate phones and contact with administration.

Recent conditions material should be read with care. The Frontier reported litigation and inspection disputes in 2023 involving juvenile housing and state health inspection concerns from 2022. That reporting is useful as dated conditions context, but it is not the same as a current population count or an official finding about every jail operation today. Current custody, visitation, and records questions should be confirmed through OCCJA or the database that created the record.
